Patience is not wasted—it’s exposed in every long shot. (my favourite quote this week) Hello Hello 👋 Ever spent hours setting up the perfect long exposure shot, only to get home and find your image is blurry, has weird color patches, or just looks... off? You're not alone. Long exposure photography is tricky, and even experienced photographers make these mistakes. Long exposure photography can turn a basic scene into a visual poem. 🚀 Here are the 7 most common long exposure photography mistakes (plus a bonus tip) that can ruin your shots: ⛵ Loose Tripod Legs = Shaky Nightmare Your tripod is your best friend in long exposure photography. But if those legs aren't locked tight, even a gentle breeze can shift your camera during a 30-second exposure. Fix : Tighten every single adjustment point. Use the tripod's center hook to hang your camera bag for extra stability. ⛵ The Viewfinder Light Leak That little viewfinder on your camera? It's letting light in during long exposures, creating strange colored blobs in your photos. Fix : Cover your viewfinder with tape or use your camera's built-in viewfinder cover if your camera has it. Trust me on this one. A blur in the water teaches clarity in your process. ⛵ Mirror Slap Shake DSLR cameras have a mirror that flips up when you take a photo. This tiny movement can blur your long exposure shots. Fix : Use Mirror Lock-Up mode (M-Up) or Live View mode. Fix : Pack plenty of cleaning cloths and lens protection. In cold weather, bring hand warmers to prevent fogging.
