[R80] 🥾 This One Airplane Etiquette Tip Matters

“ Every adventure tells a thousand stories, each one worth framing ” (my favourite quote this week) Hello Hello 👋 Once again, this week letter from Tokyo. I was traveling so letter also got delayed.This one is about plane etiquette we should remember. Flying isn’t always the most pleasant experience - it’s cramped, noisy, and sometimes stressful. But we all know that a little courtesy can make the journey smoother for everyone on board. While seat reclining debates often grab the spotlight. 🚀 There’s another aspect of airplane etiquette that tends to fly under the radar: how you interact with the seat in front of you. ⛵ Mind the Tray Table: Believe it or not, that tray table attached to the seat in front of you isn’t built for heavy-duty activities. Sure, it’s great for a drink or a snack, but pounding away on a laptop or using it as a makeshift desk? Not so much. Remember, every move you make on that tray table can be felt by the passenger ahead. Keep your movements smooth and gentle—no sudden slams or excessive tapping. A journey without a story is like a photo without a memory. ⛵ Handle Seat Pockets with Care: Seat pockets weren’t designed for overstuffing or, heaven forbid, as footrests. They’re meant to hold safety cards and maybe a magazine, not the kitchen sink. If you’re tempted to jam your belongings in there, think twice—it can push against the back of the person in front of you. As for your feet? Keep them on the floor where they belong. Pressing into that seat pocket might seem harmless, but the person in front will definitely feel it. ⛵ Avoid Using the Seatback as a Crutch: When you need to stand up, resist the urge to yank on the seat in front of you for leverage. It’s uncomfortable for the person sitting there and can be pretty jarring. Use your armrests or the sides of your own seat instead - it’s a small change that can make a big difference in someone else’s comfort. Travel with a camera, and capture moments the world never forgets. ⛵ Kid’s Etiquette Counts Too: Traveling with kids? Pre-flight conversations about not kicking the seat in front of them are key. Bring along quiet activities to keep them occupied, and if the kicking starts, a gentle reminder should help. If things get tricky, a sincere apology to the passenger in front can go a long way. Most people appreciate knowing that you’re trying your best to manage the situation. 🚀 TL:DR Flying is about getting from point A to point B, but that doesn’t mean we should overlook the little things that make the experience more bearable for everyone. A bit of mindfulness and consideration go a long way in ensuring that the journey is as pleasant as possible - not just for you, but for those around you too.
