Thousands just protested across Europe, squirting tourists with water guns and chanting “go home.” Awkward? Absolutely. But they’re not wrong—just mad at the wrong problem. Picture this: You're sipping morning coffee in a charming European square when suddenly... BOOM! A wave of tourists floods in, phones out, selfie sticks up, and that peaceful moment? Gone. You're witnessing what locals call "overtourism" – and frankly, they're fed up. I love travel. Tourism supports 1 in 10 jobs globally and pumps $10.9 trillion into the world economy. We can't just turn off the tap. But I hate what careless tourism does to locals, nature, and culture. A camera captures moments, but respect captures souls. 🚀 4 Ways Tourism Goes Wrong (And How to Fix It) ⛵ Stop Following the Crowd Mass tourism turns amazing places into theme parks. When 50 people pile off a bus into a tiny village, locals get noise, trash, and chaos – while tourists get... well, crowds. Better way: Choose small group tours (under 15 people) or go solo, couple or one family. Eat where locals eat, not where tour groups stop. ⛵ Governments Need Better Rules Many destinations promote themselves as "must-see" without thinking about capacity. Smart move: Stay in locally-owned hotels, eat at family restaurants, buy from local shops.
