Quick update on the hard disk issue, which I shared in last week's letter. I am still figuring out the best way and contacting the agency to gain confidence before sending for data recovery. I am going slow not to damage further. I will keep you posted and share the solution.

On this week's letter it's about lens and focal length. Like me, I am sure you also think and looking for the best lens for your landscape escapades? Or you are in location and thinking complete scene is not fitting in frame or subject is very far etc.

Today, let's dive into the fascinating world of focal lengths and rate each one for that perfect shot. If you want to learn in detail, read here .

🚀 Decoding Various Focal Length s ⛵ 12mm and Wider (2/10): Experience corner-stretched nightmares and exaggerated foregrounds with this ultra-wide lens.

⛵ 14mm (4/10): While a classic ultra-wide focal length, beware of spaghettified edges that might distort your otherwise perfect shot.

⛵ 16mm (5/10): Slightly better than 14mm, this focal length fixes stretched corners just enough to be more appealing.

⛵ 24mm (10/10): Ah, perfection. With exceptional qualities in every way, 24mm captures landscapes in a way that's hard to beat.

⛵ 35mm (10/10): Unbelievable and stunning, 35mm stands tall as a perfect focal length, offering an intuitive, creative, and unpretentious perspective.

⛵ 50mm (5/10): Versatile yet a bit of an odd fit for landscapes, 50mm doesn't quite align with the natural way our eyes see landscapes.

In the tapestry of landscapes, each lens paints a unique stroke. ⛵ 70mm (7/10): Getting back to business, 70mm is great for classic, grand landscape photos where the background deserves emphasis.

⛵ 85mm (8/10): Similar to 70mm but a touch better for intimate and abstract landscapes, making it a good fit for diverse scenarios.

⛵ 105mm (9/10): A truly fantastic focal length, 105mm strikes the right balance between wide and telephoto, ideal for both classic and larger intimate landscapes.

⛵ 135mm (9/10): Wow. 135mm draws you in, providing a great perspective and making it optimal for both classic and intimate-style landscapes.

⛵ 150mm (Undetermined): Often forgotten, 150mm exists as a somewhat mysterious focal length, with its niche yet to be explored.

⛵ 200mm (10/10): Exceptional for abstract and intimate landscapes, 200mm proves to be an ideal telephoto focal length for capturing diverse scenes.

In the realm of landscapes, the lens is the silent storyteller, capturing whispers and roars alike. ⛵ 300mm (7/10): Still strong but slightly less versatile, 300mm shines in capturing more distant scenes where a tighter composition is essential.

⛵ 400mm (8/10): Surprisingly better than its predecessor, 400mm shines in capturing distant landscapes without the atmospheric haze becoming too problematic.

⛵ 500-600mm (4/10): Often too long for standard landscape photography, but it can work in specific scenarios, especially with the right atmospheric conditions.

⛵ 800mm+ (2/10): While fun for novelty, shooting landscapes at 800mm and beyond poses significant challenges, including atmospheric haze and stability issues.

Your style, your lens. While I love 16-35 and 70-200 mm lens, your perfect frame might be elsewhere. What's your go-to focal length for capturing landscapes? If in doubt start with 16-35 and 70-200mm.
