We always talk about terrorist attacks, system irresponsibility, corruption issues etc. We, the citizens of India usually face many of these types of problems every day, but considering it as a “Breaking News” we just chit chat over the matter but never think about dealing with it and respond so as to stop what’s going on.
We all realise when it happened with us, the most common example being the Seat reservation in Railways. Unexpectedly if we have a confirmed ticket (although it’s very difficult in a country like India with such a huge population and all-time rushing crowd), we expect no disturbance, to rest comfortably on our seat, even sometimes we don’t allow others sitting on our seat and humiliate them even.
We watch lots of people roaming around the ticket collector for temporary ticket at any price rate. Sometimes we actually enjoy watching them, or even pass comments like, “It’s against about selling tickets at any price without any official slip, and it’s a sort of corruption.” We accept the fact that this must not happen. But considering the situation when we don’t have any ticket, may be an urgent journey, we pray to GOD & hope so that ticket collector will give us seat at any cost. We get involved with the wrong going and thus became part of it.
This happens so commonly around our surroundings and we, watching the situation, blaming for it, getting involved and equally participating; still hope someday it will become better. Nobody actually wants to put some effort and work as to improve the system.
We choose our government. They use to make promises before every election, or after any sudden incident, but what finally we get is all planning, committee formation, discussion over Lok Sabha, Supreme Court involvement and then at last an abysmal hope. They are even not being able to remove stray (awara) animals from streets, how could we trust them and expect that one day all this will remove terrorism or improve the system, and create a safety environment for ourselves.
I heard one story during my childhood days. Once there was a small boy in a villager’s family, he used to eat sweets a lot. So many times his mother scolded him, bit him, punished him, but there seems no result in the habit of that kid. His mother went to the Swami Vivekananda, and told him about her child habit. Then Swami ji asked her to come next week. She didn’t understand why he asked her so.
Then after a week, she again went to Swami ji for the solution. He gave the solution and her child finally recovered from the habit. That lady but never understood the delay of one week involved, she went to Swami ji again and asked him for the reason. Then, Swami ji replied that he was also habituated to sweets, and that’s why it was first essential to get his habits rectified and then only he can confidently suggest others the solution. He took this 1 week time interval for refining his own habits.
So try first to improve yourselves, and then only expect others to rectify their mistakes or things can be better! “Like one ant can mad an elephant”, “one drop of water can generate ripples in the sea” so why are we waiting for any miracle like everything will get better suddenly.
“Just start thinking from your bad side to become good, but start now!”
